Te Mata Peak (Sleeping Giant)

today we woke up to a brilliant morning when the crimson ray came spreading all over our bedroom...so Yasutomo and myself prepared a picnic and head to the Te Mata forest park...

this is a very well preserved park with a lush redwoods encompassing the entire valley, it took us a couple of hours to get to the peak, the journey was tiring, as im really not the most athletic person, but the view was incredible, we could see through to the Ocean Beach where we went the day before, much disappointed because there werent any seals when we were there...

anyway, we met a nice lady who showed us the shortest route to get around, because we were panting all the way hiking through the woods, and she was encouraging us all along...she was as sure-footed as a lamb, running ahead of us with the slightest lethargy, and kept looking back at us to ask us to hurry up...such embarrassment!

We had a wonderful outing, gorgeous scenery for the eyes and breathing the wood-scented air, sometimes disturbed by a whiff of stench from the sheeps' poo...but they are gentle creatures, would never come close to you even if a wolf is nearby...

***

im leaving tomorrow to Wellington, the plan is to hitch a hike to get there...it is only 300km from here, and im sure it wont be such a hassle....the only thing that bothers me is the heavy backpack that im gonna carry, i cant even imagine what's gonna happen at the airport, im sure it is heavier than 20kg!

Nevertheless, being me who worry bout nothing till the last minute, im sure im in good hands, havent i hitherto been scraping through all this while? albeit not always smooth sailing, but that's the fun and challenge of it...

i can do this...
